Abstract. Many new finds have recently been obtained in the sub-mountainous area of the Crimean Peninsula, mostly from the cemeteries of Opushki and Frontovoye 3. As a result, we now possess considerably more material than the researchers who published their studies in the previous years did. There is a need to determine the chronological position of the artefacts featuring the Late Roman polychrome style which were uncovered at the graves of the Crimean barbarians. This study attempts to date the artefacts featuring the Late Roman polychrome style based on the goods discovered not only in the same grave but also, where possible, accompanying the same individual. The appendix to the article contains illustrations and tables shows that the main bulk of the artefacts featuring the Late Roman polychrome style were used in the second half of the third and fourth centuries. However, there are a few graves containing the artefacts under study which were made, by all appearance, as early as the first half of the third century. It would be hard to determine the latest date of the distribution of the Late Roman polychrome style in the Crimean foothill area within the fourth century. Although there is no argument preventing one from supporting the chronologies suggested by M.M. Kazanski or S.A. Yatsenko and V.Yu. Malashev, the Crimean assemblages neither clarify nor confirm them. In total, this study addresses 69 artefacts featuring the Late Roman polychrome style, including 45 earrings, 10 bracelets, 9 strap-ends, 4 rectangular pectoral ornaments, and 1 lunula pendant. These objects occur in 34 assemblages. The selection under study is rather representative, especially if one takes into account the rarity of the artefacts featuring the Late Roman polychrome style, explainable by their high price and prestige. Therefore, there are reasons to expect that the conclusions concerning the chronology of the distribution of the artefacts featuring the Late Roman polychrome style in the Crimean foothill area are quite reliable. Along with the determination of the chronology of the assemblages, stable combinations of artefacts accompanying the goods featuring the Late Roman polychrome style have been uncovered.
